Ship Management
ISM Code - SAFETY
The ISM Code (International Safety Management) is a set of international rules and standards developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to promote ship safety and the protection of the marine environment.
The ISM Code requires shipping companies and ship owners to implement a safety management system on board their ships. This management system must be designed to identify and manage risks associated with maritime operations, in order to ensure a safe working environment for crew, prevent maritime accidents and reduce environmental impact.
Shipping companies are required to develop a Safety Management Manual and designate qualified personnel, known as “Designated Person Ashore”, to monitor and ensure the effectiveness of the safety management system.
The ISM Code establishes specific requirements for the planning and execution of maritime activities, crew management, on-board safety management, personnel training, vessel inspection and maintenance, analysis of the causes of accidents and implementation of preventive measures.
ISPS Code - SECURITY
The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is a set of international rules and standards developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to enhance the security of ships and ports worldwide, in order to prevent acts of terrorism and threats.
The ISPS Code requires commercial ships and ports to implement specific security measures and adopt approved security plans to prevent terrorist attacks, acts of piracy or other events that could jeopardize maritime security.
Ships subject to the ISPS Code must have an approved Ship Security Plan (Ship Security Plan) and designate qualified personnel, known as “Security Officers” both on board (SSO) and in the Company (CSO). Ports, on the other hand, must develop a Port Facility Security Plan (Port Facility Security Plan) and designate qualified personnel, known as PFSOs.
MLC Code - LABOUR CONVENTION
The MLC (Maritime Labour Convention) Code, also known as the “Seafarers’ Bill of Rights”, is an international treaty adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) that establishes minimum standards for the protection of seafarers’ rights on board commercial ships.
The MLC Code applies to all commercial ships, regardless of their gross tonnage or their operations, and is designed to ensure decent working and living conditions for seafarers on board. The Code covers a wide range of issues affecting seafarers’ rights, including employment, the contract of employment, living and working conditions, social protection, health and safety on board and other aspects relating to seafarers’ welfare.
The main objective of the MLC Code is to ensure the protection of seafarers’ rights, promote adequate working and living conditions and improve the welfare of seafarers on board commercial ships.
IHM - Inventory Harzardous Material
The Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) Code is a set of international requirements developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the management of hazardous materials on board ships. The primary objective of the IHM Code is to ensure worker safety, protection of the marine environment and public health by reducing exposure to hazardous substances on ships.
Ships are required to undergo a thorough inventory of hazardous materials assessment prior to scrapping, as well as in the event of a transfer of ownership or significant modifications to the ship. Additionally, ships must be certified by a classification society or recognized body to attest to compliance with the inventory of hazardous materials.
